Dinosaur ABCs – One dinosaur for every letter of the alphabet

Have a dinosaur nut in your house? Want to keep a future paleontologist happy? Need to help a little one learn to read? Me too! This list makes learning ABCs less painful for everyone.

My youngest absolutely loves dinosaurs. He speaks in roars, eats with his face inside the plate and stomps around the house with his arms bent like a T-Rex. After 4 years of this, I believe he may be more dinosaur than human. This also means that he has (what I assume) is the attention span of a dinosaur. Well, at least when it comes to non-dino related topics.

Dinosaur Themed Activity

As much as I love having a stone cold lizard roaming my house, I would like him to eventually learn to read and do well in school. He can be a thunder lizard part-time AFTER he’s “done got his learnin” as my dad would say. That being said, I do understand he needs to like learning, so I have a long list of dinosaur names we are using to teach him his basics. With these names he can count them, repeat difficult sounds, learn his ABCs and practice handwriting.

This list of dinosaur names helped my little one focus on the task of learning the alphabet for more than a minute! Need help keeping your kid happy and yourself sane? This teaching tool will make letter recognition fun.

Some of these are a bit difficult for even me to pronounce, but a quick google search is easy to do. Even Kindergarteners needs to do online searches now, so it doesn’t hurt to begin early. I’ve found that my older son can use this list as well. We do brain building exercises by taking a name and trying to find as many words within the word, or by making a dino-themed word search. He loves them (and it is HARD to impress a 15 year old, they are too cool for their own good).

What are some ideas you have for this list?
